Dr.  Christiane Werneck completed medical school at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. She trained and practiced in Cardiovascular Surgery in Brazil and subsequently did a fellowship in Vascular Ultrasonography.  She then completed an additional 4 years of fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of Toronto.  She joined the faculty in 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery.  She completed a Master’s of Science in Community Health with emphasis in Education and also has a certificate in Education through the Stepping Stones Teacher Development Program and Education Scholars Program, both from the Centre for Faculty Development at the University of Toronto. She is also certified to perform and interpret vascular ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

She has been on staff at Trillium Health Partners since 2008. Her main clinical interests are chronic wound care, open and endovascular treatment of aortic disease, carotid disease, and vascular ultrasound and vascular access for hemodialysis.  She also has a great interest in Medical Education and is currently the Education Lead in Surgery and Site Lead for the Residency Program in Vascular Surgery.  She is actively engaged in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and also participates in clinical research. She is passionate about continuing medical education and has organized several CME accredited programs in the community to promote interprofessional collaboration and improve vascular patient care.

She is an active member of the Society of Vascular Surgery, International Society of Vascular Surgery and Canadian Society of Vascular Surgery. She is also a reviewer for the Journal Annals of Vascular Surgery.
